Evolving
Finding my place in the world has been exhilarating, disconcerting, and often times intimidating. After a few missteps in life, I have slowly learned to do what feels beneficial to me. Ironically, in a world full of pretentious over-doers, I have often felt like my best wasn’t good enough. While all accomplishments are commendable, I have learned that some are often disregarded because they don’t look successful enough by society’s standards. If your hustle is otherworldly like mine, then you quietly devote your life to the things that will allow you to keep your integrity and ultimately make you happy.
I have become relentless about pursuing my passion for helping people and the strong understanding of the importance of investing in relationships. While creating my perfect occupation, I realized the upheavals of being precariously over educated + black + queer + female, were only mere setbacks. I began to recognize the barriers as teachers even when the work of deciphering them was laborious. Unwavering in my faith, I was determined to produce the life I wanted to live by making my passion, my work.
Despite my intentional route to obtain my achievements, I have discovered face to face interactions can change the trajectory of your career rather than judiciously crafted cover letters and loquacious resumes. I’ve noticed that timing is everything and divine intervention is nothing short of magical. Becoming influential is just as important as being a hard worker. Finally, being educated is important, but building solid connections is just as paramount as finding people that truly believe in your vision.
Blooming later in life has taught me gratitude, gentleness, patience, and fortitude. Indeed, flourishing at this time in my life means cultivating my ideal garden; yet I feel more powerful than ever. I firmly believe that there are several ways to find fulfilling work, even if it means building jobs and opportunities specifically crafted for you.
