Doing What I Love
I acquired my education with a deliberate intention to do something that I loved. It was necessary to have more than just a paycheck that carried the weight of an unfulfilled adult with tons of student loan debt. It was essential that I made more than an obscene amount of money, because I watched people “forget”. You know the people that get a touch of amnesia when they have acquired that particular number in their bank account; yet they can’t seem to remember what it feels like to want to make a difference. It was imperative for me to live in service because I have witnessed the benefits of doing magnanimous deeds. It was one of my non-negotiables, an unwavering fervor to do things that brought me immense joy!
Serving others is more than just a duty or an obligation; but rather it’s a charge! It’s who you are and what you believe. It’s the reason you wake up, and the reason you accept any invitation to join an organization or a new client. It’s an assignment that often resembles a burden; yet yields the greatest reward. I am reminded for so many people that just securing an occupation is a relief. The mere fact that you can feed your family is a blessing. More importantly, you can make a difference in some capacity.
It never ceases to amaze me that most people don’t love what they do. As a matter of fact, they are often overworked, and substantially underpaid. The reality is that education gives us options, but doing what you love is the fuel that generates the currency you make. Being more intentional about doing what you love increases morale, creates memorable experiences, and promotes a greater level of freedom. I believe that if more individuals created a culture that was service-oriented; salaries would be more equitable and diversity would be a standard rather than a position.
I believe in service and doing what you love; even if it means creating my own business that allows me the greatest satisfaction. I believe in cultivating relationships and lingering a while longer to ensure clients have memorable experiences. Everyone deserves an occupation that speaks to the heart of who they are. Everyone must seek to do great things in small ways to ensure that every area of our world gets better. There are no small positions, just people who haven’t found their purpose yet. Being of service is powerful and those of us who choose to wield our influence for good get the amazing opportunity to create magical experiences everyday.
