Generations
This moment is healing in motion striving to overcome the absence of women that put strained obligations of family + career before their children. Bygones! These smiles are therapeutic chandeliers that we are now beginning to hang in lieu of carrying the burdens of unmet needs of endless generations. These emotions are amplified from years of suppressing joy due to abusive lovers, absent parents, neglectful grandparents, Jim Crow, share cropping + clandestine meetings shared between broken adults recycling trauma. It’s complicated! Being black is complicated!
This exact moment in time is monumental, not because we are all related but because healing is generational in that when one person corrects the infrastructure all other generations benefit from it. This appropriate time is love at its highest due to all the pain that has been restored by us doing our work daily to ensure that we don’t set each other up to fail. This very brief moment of shared laughter amongst 3 generations of women standing in solidarity to uphold the mantle the other couldn’t carry is instrumental in being better. Better as black people, women, sisters, mothers, daughters + partners.
We are standing here reclaiming everything that was stolen from us. All the joy of parenting black children. All the joy of successful relationships. All the joy of forgiving each other. All the joy of being black. All the joy of loving one other Unconditionally. This is the highest of all...this my friend is love! Salut!
