Rediscovering The Woman I Always Knew
Lately, I haven't felt like myself. A recent conversation with my astrologer changed that. She lovingly asked me, "Do you feel like you show up as yourself?" I had to admit that while I might feel authentic on date nights, most of the time—whether I'm seeing clients or just going about my day—I feel like I'm wearing a uniform. As a Black woman, I often feel pressured to fit into proverbial boxes.
I know I'm sexy and full of life, but lately, I've felt stifled. My astrologer reassured me, saying, "You can be sexy and still get people together." That simple statement liberated me in ways I couldn't have imagined. Her words were a reminder that I don't have to choose between being strong and being sensual. I can be both, and more.
Sometimes, we need those who love us to remind us of what we already know but have forgotten. It's easy to get caught up in the roles and expectations placed upon us. It's even easier to lose sight of our true selves in the process. That conversation was a wake-up call, a reminder that my authenticity is my power.
Honestly, I'd rather be a woman of substance who forgot about her sexiness than a woman with no substance who only has her looks. Embracing all facets of myself—my intellect, my strength, my sensuality—makes me whole. It's a journey, but one that's worth every step.
